Best things to do in Dublin this Christmas

It’s that magical time of the year. Looking for things to do this festive season? We’ve got a real Dubliner’s list of the 5 best things to do in Dublin this Christmas to get you feeling merry. Ho, Ho, Ho!

1. Head for the Hills

Nothing says Christmas catching up with good friends and family in a warm and welcoming place. Johnnie Fox’s Pub is the perfect place to share some brilliant food and drink, as well as stories and laughs. Relax in front of a roaring fire with and old friend and one of their famous Irish coffees, or bring together the whole family in the festive and cosy surrounding for a delicious meal, including seasonal specials from the menu. You can even go all out with the gang from work, and drink and dance the night away at the world famous Hooley show!

2. See the lights

For many Dubliners, the true sign that Christmas has begun is when the lights go up on Gafton Street and O’Connel Street. With extended opening hours for shops, and more public transport made available, there is no excuse not get into the city center and see the wonderful street light displays, and maybe even do a little shopping.

3. Go to the Panto

Nothing says a childhood Christmas in Dublin like the Panto. If you have kids, it’s a must do. The most famous of the Pantos, The Gaiety Panto is doing a production of The Snow Queen this year. “She’s behind you!!”

4. Jump in at the 40 foot

A Christmas day swim has become a tradition for many Dubliners. You can’t beat the joyous community feeling down at the 40 Foot in Dun Laoighre on the big day, and we promise that you’ll come away with the strong sense that you’ve earned your turkey and sprouts. Jaysus that’s freezing!

5. The Dublin Flea Christmas Market

A brilliant opportunity to do all your Christmas shopping in one place from local, small and independent Irish producers. From artisan foods to arts arts and crafts, homeware to skin care this has it all. Happening this year from the 6-9th & 13-16th of December in The Point Village.
